CVA for Cuppers
Coffee Value Assessment (CVA) is the SCA's new global standard for evaluating coffee.
It replaces the traditional cupping form with a smarter, bias-aware, and multi dimensional approach that reflects how we actually experience quality.
The CVA framework covers:
· Physical (green and roasted attributes)
· Descriptive (objective sensory intensity)
· Affective (preference-based evaluation)
· Extrinsic (context such as origin, sustainability, and story)
CVA is science-based, globally aligned, and built for the future of specialty coffee.
Who CVA is for
CVA reflects the latest sensory science, separating what a coffee is from how it feels - offering a more transparent and equitable way to assess value from farm to cup.
· Q Graders (current and lapsed)
· Green buyers and professional cuppers
· Anyone ready to evolve their evaluation practice
What you'll learn
· Use a 15-point intensity scale
· Work with hedonic & CATA tools
· Calibrate using real sensory references
· Assess physical, descriptive, affective & extrinsic value - clearly and consistently
This is cupping, redefined for the future of specialty coffee.
