Become an internationally recognised coffee professional with the SCA Coffee Skills Program (CSP).

The Brewing FOUNDATION & INTERMEDIATE course is designed for coffee enthusiasts, home brewers, baristas and hospitality professionals who want to build a solid understanding of coffee brewing principles and develop practical brewing skills. Unlike a traditional classroom course,
MQ LAB places strong emphasis on practical brewing and sensory calibration.

  • Coffee Brewing Fundamentals

  • Water for Brewing

    ∙ Water quality
    ∙ Water chemistry
    ∙ Temperature
    ∙ Water impact on flavour

  • Grinding

    ∙ Grind size
    ∙ Grind distribution
    ∙ Burr grinders
    ∙ Particle consistency

  • Brewing Methods

    Hands-on brewing using different manual brewing methods, including: V60, Kalita Wave, French Press, Batch Brew.
    Students will compare recipes and understand how brewing variables influence flavour.

  • Brewing Evaluation

    Learn to:
    ∙ Evaluate coffee quality
    ∙ Measure Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
    ∙ Understand extraction balance
    ∙ Adjust brewing recipes

  • Practical Assessment

    Students will complete the official SCA Brewing Foundation practical assessment.

  • Theory Examination

    After the course, students will complete the official SCA online theory exam within the timeframe specified by SCA. Successful completion of both practical and theory assessments is required to receive the SCA Brewing Foundation certificate.

General Course Booking Policy

  1. Minimum Enrollment:
    Each course requires a minimum number of participants to proceed.
    If this number is not met, MQ LAB reserves the right to reschedule or cancel the class.
  2. Rescheduling Requests:
    Students who wish to change their booking must contact us at mqcoffeenz@gmail.com
    at least 3 days before the scheduled class date.
  3. Cancellations and Refunds:
    If a student cannot attend for personal reasons,
    we will first offer an option to reschedule to another available session.
    If rescheduling is not possible, a refund will be arranged.
